50cc Scooters

Looking to get around but don't want to pay a fortune for gas?  50cc scooters are a great solution if you don't need to go above 40 mph and need something to get you around town.  These little scooters can sometimes go up to 80 miles on one gallon of gas and are cheap to drive.

Scooter Benefits

You can really go anywhere a car can in a scooter.  The biggest thing that will determine where you can go is the speed limits of the roads.  If you live within a big city that has a max speed limit of 35 mph than a scooter is an excellent money saving solution for transportation.  Although a scooter is not as safe as a car, it is much less dangerous than a motorcycle.  Leather gloves and a jacket combined with a helmet will increase the safety of your scooter riding.

Insurance cost is WAY cheaper than what you pay for a car each month.  For example, i have a 150cc scooter and it costs me 20 bucks a month and i have awesome coverage in case i ever got in an accident.

Another great thing about having a scooter is that you can really park anywhere.  Most businesses have specific motorcycle parking and it's usually right up near the front entrance.  This has by far been my favorite part of owning a scooter.  When i went to college i could get to school 5 minutes before class started and park right up near the entrance to my class buildings.

Scooter Types

Scooters are cooler looking than ever these days.  Last summer when gas was close to 4 dollars a gallon, scooters were in high demand and they really became popular.  Most scooters that are selling look just like a motorcycle from the front and back.  The only thing that gives them away is the sides of the scooter.  Scooters come in all kinds of colors and styles as there are chopper styles, Harley Davidson styles, and more.

Scooters also come with different amounts of power.  Here is a breakdown of scooter engine types:

  • 50cc scooters have a top speed of about 35 mph to 40 mph.
  • 150cc scooters have faster acceleration but top speed is about 55 mph.
  • 250cc scooters feel like a motorcycle as they accelerate very fast and top speed is about 75 mph.

As you can see you may need a higher CC scooter to meet the travel needs of your demographic and where you live.

Average Prices

Scooter prices can differ across the nation, but here are some average prices. I bought my 150cc scooter last year in may and got it for $750 dollars. This was a good deal as scooters usually are seasonal items and are much more expensive in the summertime. The Internet is a great deal for most scooters, however be very careful as most of these scooters are parts and you have to put them together. I would highly suggest buying a scooter that is pre-assembled.

  • The average Price for a 50cc scooter is from $500-$750 dollars.
  • The average price for a 150cc scooter is from $750 to $1,250 dollars.
  • The average price for a 250cc scooter is from $1,750 to $2,500 dollars

Scooter's RULE! We ride them at the track, around town and they saved our bacon when we were at school for transportation. Cheap to own, great mileage and dependable.
